About Diabetes Mellitus

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition that affects millions of people around the world. In Type I Diabetes, it’s a condition when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. In Type II Diabetes, its the body’s insulin is not effective enough keep up with the amount of glucose in the body. 

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas, leading to a lack of insulin production. Type 2 diabetes, on the other hand, is caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors, including obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, and diet choices.

The symptoms of diabetes can vary depending on the type of diabetes and the severity of the condition. Sometimes milder stages of diabetes may not cause any symptoms. More severe stages of diabetes can cause symptoms of increased thirst, frequent urination, blurred vision, fatigue, confusion.

  • fasting plasma glucose test above 126,
  • random glucose above 200, or
  • A1C test above 6.5%
